Laminate isn t as strong as other flooring options and it s easily damaged by devices like steam cleaners buffers and polishers. It may take several passes to get the floor clean but the mop is safer for your floors. If your floor is looking dingy use a mop and some elbow grease to clean it. Use a steam mop occasionally for a very deep clean.

Try cleaning the floor with a vinegar water mix or one of the other cleaners as described in our guide how to clean laminate flooring. Steam mops create too much moisture for laminate floors which are often manufactured with a compressed fiber particleboard layers. Be sure to dry the floor immediately after steam cleaning with a clean dry microfiber cloth or mop. Do not use steam cleaners or wet mops which may cause irreparable damage to your floor.

Laminate floor containing laminate planks are not suitable for steam clean because moisture can quickly go through this floor and damage it easily. For tough spots such as oil paint markers lipstick ink or tar use acetone nail polish remover on a clean white cloth. If it is dirty then it s no longer absorbing the dirt and oils that the steam loosens and instead is just pushing them around. For this type of floor you can steam clean it occasionally.

Unfortunately the short answer is no. Always remove grit sharp objects staining agents moisture or aggressive substances from the floor. For steam cleaning tile floors or your laminate mix the water rubbing alcohol and vinegar in a mixing bowl and then add in the dishwashing soap. Never allow liquids to stand on your floor.

The steam can cause swelling and warping of the product. For a deeper cleaning use a damp cotton cloth or cloth mop. You can use a window cleaner occasionally for spills but don t over use ammonia which can strip protective sealant. Use a damp cloth to blot up spills as soon as they happen.

Steam cleaners are exceptional at getting dirt and grime off laminate floors. Avoid oil based cleaners as they can leave streaks that are impossible to get rid of. Also check the pad on your steam cleaner. For deeper cleaning you can use a steam mop very sparingly on laminate floors.

But the water resistant laminate floor contains waterproof material in the core layer. However the intense heat and moisture it uses to get the job done can also wreak havoc on the adhesive used on your laminate floors.
